What we are paid for
GoodNest makes money in two ways: the keepsake book, which you buy from us, and a small number of links to other companies who pay us if you use them. That is the whole list. This page says which links those are and what we will not do with them.
The rules we hold to
- The free option comes first, and says it is free.
- Even where the free thing is a worse product. We tell you the difference and let you pick.
- Payment never affects the order.
- Nothing on this site is ranked, featured or placed because somebody paid. There is no arrangement in which that could happen.
- The same page for everybody.
- We never use what we know about your child — their age, your balance, the year you are saving toward — to decide what to recommend. Recommendations here are general, not advice about your situation.
- Education is never a referral.
- When we link you to an explanation of a 529 or a federal child account, it goes to the SEC or the IRS. Those links have never paid us and never will.
- We say no to things that pay more.
- Some children’s investing apps pay the largest referral fees in this category and charge families up to $144 a year for an account Fidelity and Schwab give away free. We do not carry them at any price.
- Nothing is ever taken out of a gift.
- This is separate from all of the above and has not changed: money given to your child reaches your child in full. It goes straight from the giver to your family, and GoodNest never touches it.
The links, and what they pay
There are none right now. No link anywhere on GoodNest currently earns us anything. When that changes, the partner and the amount appear here on the same day the link does.
What this is not
None of it is financial or legal advice, and we are not a financial adviser, a broker or a law firm. We do not hold your money, invest it, or choose where it goes — gifts go straight from the giver to you and stop there. Where you put it next is genuinely your decision, and the size of a referral fee is not a reason to trust a recommendation, here or anywhere.
If you think something on this site reads like an advert rather than a recommendation, that is worth telling us, and it is worth us changing.
